Edinburgh Castle is a great place to visit while in Scotland. Begin by walking along the historical Royal Mile where there are several others making the journey, stopping to enjoy the talented street performers. As you stroll along you can feel the essence of the past and sense how much that has taken place along this cobble stone street. Interesting shops, restaurants and pubs line the mile as you walk your way up to the castle.
Once at the castle you can tour many areas on your own with an audio tour available in six languages or have a guided tour of the grounds. Highlights of the castle are The Great Hall, Mons Meg, National War Museum, Prisons of War Exhibition, The Royal Palace, Crowned Jewels, along with the Stone of Destiny and many more interesting areas. Touring the castle can either be done in a few hours or take all day depending on how much time you would like to spend there. There is a cafe located with in the castle walls that serves food, coffee, and tea if you plan to stay all day and would like a quick bite. I included a photo of the menu at the Redcoat Cafe along with a link to receive information on the cafes available in the castle.
